Alfred S. Vanderlaan has had a distinguished career in the securities industry, helping clients build their personal wealth for more than 30 years. He grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Agronomy and Business. He continued working in the farming industry, even managing a farmers coop. While working closely with farmers, he noticed that the successful farmers simply did not know what to do with their profits besides reinvesting them into the farm, which oftentimes wasn’t the best use of funds and could even cost them when tax time came. Mr. Vanderlaan began researching the securities industry, and in 1979 became a licensed registered representative. He then began offering his investment expertise to friends and family. His accomplishments became more widely known throughout the community, and Mr. Vanderlaan was able to broaden his reach.
Today, Mr. Vanderlaan provides financial advice to more than 100 clients while remaining actively involved in the farming community. As a resident of South Dakota since 1978, Mr. Vanderlaan has been actively involved as a leader in his community. He is the Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis Club in Region 5 of the Minnesota and South Dakota division, is the President of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Glacial Lakes, and is past president of Habitat For Humanity Greater Watertown Region, Inc. In addition, he was on the dive rescue team in Watertown at its inception and is a certified Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church. Mr. Vanderlaan has been married to his wonderful wife, Elaine, for more than 45 years and has 2 daughters and 8 grandchildren he adores.
